CHIC Dessin is set to make all the difference with a strong mobilization of galleries for its maiden run. Over two thirds of the works on show have been specially commissioned for the fair, in solo or duo presentations. Polad-Hardouin will be presenting Eric Fiol, Wu Xiaohai (see image below) and Marcel Katuchewski, along with the rising generation in a group exhibition that will evolve on site during the fair. Maria Lund will propose an installation by South African artist Lyndi Sales, while Jason Manley’s treasure maps will invite discovery at the Valérie Lambert space. The Du Buisson gallery will be taking the pulse of the event with a cabinet dedicated to links between therapy and art, accompanied by a performance signed Laetitia Bourget, whose drawings will be stuck onto the palm of the visitor’s hand.
Some galleries, such as Cynthia Corbett or Sit Down, will be backing the art / design cross-over initiated at CHIC Dessin by inviting artists and designers to collaborate. Cynthia Corbett will be showing a light installation by Nicolas Saint Grégoire; Sit Down ten thinking boxes, a participative piece created by Thomas Lemut (designer) and Christian Roux (drawings).
Observers should note that there is perfect equality between the sexes at the fair, with 50 % of women among the creators. For the impatient, a sneak preview of all the works is available here.
Conceived of as a private showcase for the 25 galleries exhibiting, the proximity of CHIC Dessin to the world of design finds expression in the contemporary art cabinet feeling that organizers Cécile Griesmar and Sandrine Bisognin want to project for the new event. Furniture by Eric Jourdan will equip each stand with sober and refined elegance. The fit-out made its début at the Première Vision salon, produced by GL Events, and the table-and-chairs range is a good sample of the work of this French designer, who has worked with the classic constraints of quality corporate furniture. A fine demonstration of design skill that CHIC will have the pleasure of sharing with visitors.
François Basilien, head man with the original distributor of design Forum Diffusion, will be taking part in this unique event by proposing a selection of lighting to personalize each stand. Flos, Design Stockholm House and Metalarte will be among the big name makers contributing to the domestic atmosphere of the salon. Like the art works on show, the range of lighting will also be on sale to visitors of CHIC Dessin.
